Reviews
Shortly after our arrival, a guest on my reservation decided to take a shower. While washing her face, the glass shower door suddenly and without warning shattered. The glass exploded across the bathroom, leaving her with a cut on her foot and multiple bruises on her back. In her vulnerable state, completely exposed and in pain, she had to rely on hotel staff to assist her out of the shower.
Instead of addressing the situation with the care and professionalism one would expect, the hotel chose to charge us $1,060, insisting that "glass cannot simply explode." However, after consulting with multiple legal experts, we discovered that glass can indeed shatter spontaneously for a variety of reasons. Despite this, the hotel refused to provide any documentation from the glass manufacturer, any inspection reports, or any evidence to justify the cost they claimed.
Adding insult to injury, the hotel falsely accused us of being intoxicated upon arrival, despite the fact that we had just completed a long day of travel and checked in at 11 AM. This baseless accusation only compounded the distress of an already traumatic experience.
I strongly advise against booking a room at Hotel Giolli Nazionale. Their handling of this incident was not only unprofessional but also deeply unethical. The safety and well-being of guests should be a top priority, not an opportunity to levy exorbitant charges. You could easily find yourself in a similar situation if you stay here—be warned.
My recent stay at Hotel Giolli Nazionale in Rome turned into a nightmare within just 15 minutes of checking in. After a long flight and an hour and a half wait to get into my room, I was greeted with a terrifying experience. While washing my face in the shower, the glass door suddenly and violently shattered all over me, leaving me injured, naked, and in shock.
The hotel staff had to help me out of the bathroom, completely exposed and hurt, before they started to clean up the mess. The incident was not only physically damaging but also extremely traumatic.
To add insult to injury, the hotel management has not only failed to acknowledge their responsibility for this horrifying situation but has also charged me €950,00 for the damages caused by their faulty equipment. Despite providing them with videos and photos of the incident, they had the audacity to claim that such an event could not have happened, blaming me for their own failure to maintain safe facilities.
The hotel's management was nowhere to be found the next morning to address the situation, leaving their staff to deal with our justifiable anger and distress. This is not how a reputable establishment should treat its guests, especially after such a dangerous and traumatic incident.
I strongly urge anyone considering a stay at Hotel Giolli Nazionale to think twice. This was not just an issue of poor service—it was a complete failure in guest safety and management responsibility. I will be pursuing this matter further, and I encourage others to avoid this hotel at all costs.
The reception staff was very nice and breakfast was also very good. Location was great, you can walk easily to many places (Colosseum, Trevi, Pantheon,...)
Rooms: Before I even reserved anything I asked where the rooms with a view are and told them that I have very sensitive hearing. I was told that those rooms are on the 5th floor. When I made the reservation I told again that I have autism and hypersensitive hearing and asked for a room from the upper floors.
First we got a room from the first floor and it was not like in the pictures on the website, it was smaller and there was a buzzing light bulb. They fixed the buzzing when we informed them about it.
After two nights they moved us to the 4th floor which was better for us because it was a little more quiet with traffic noise and the room looked more like the pictures on the website. But... in that second room there was buzzing noise all the time and we told the staff twice and it was not fixed. Buzzing came from the fuse panel when the card was in so you have lights and electricity in the room. The buzzing noise was so bad even my girlfriend heard it loud and clear with her normal hearing, so I did not sleep that well because I could hear it even through the bedroom door. Also I think the shower leaked, because there was a towel on top of it.
Purely because of the rooms not worth the money. It was pretty expensive, so I expected rooms to be as good as the staff was. I would go here again because of the friendly staff but definitely not because of the rooms and that freaking buzzing noise that drove me crazy.
We came back and when we arrived to our room it wasn’t clean, it smelt really bad.
We decided to change hotels and when we asked for a refund they said it wouldn’t be possible.
There were hardly any outlets in our room. The hand soap dispenser was empty, we brought soap, so it didn't really affect us. The bathroom always had a sewer smell. I thought it might have been from a dry trap so we ran water into all of them and closed all of the stoppers, but it really didn't help, but if we closed the bathroom door, the rest of the room smelled fine. The main shower head was stationary and did not extend far enough over the bath tub so water would hit straight down and splatter all over the wall. It was not the best setup. There was also a handheld sprayer. There was a metal door stopper in a really bad location in front the of wardrobe, but right outside the bathroom, that I was guaranteed to stub my toe on, so I covered it during our stay. They sent a link to pre-book a car for your departure day if you should need it, but the car company wanted 82 euros to go to the airport, we opted for a 52 euro taxi instead, but the company the hotel uses is very easy to book with if you should choose.
