Novum Hotel Stadtzentrum in Hamburg

TOTALLY LET DIWN BY OPODO AND NOVUM

I booked the Novum Hotel Hamburg Stradzentrum through Opodo for a trip with friends, and the experience was very disappointing from start to finish. After booking, I discovered that the hotel is located in a red light area and had shared bathrooms, which was not made clear during the booking process. Because of this, we felt uncomfortable staying there and tried to cancel or transfer to another Novum property.

However, we were repeatedly passed back and forth between Opodo and Novum Hotels. Opodo told me the hotel had to handle the booking, while the hotel insisted everything had to go through Opodo. Novum’s central reservations team also failed to respond or help. Despite several phone calls and emails to both sides, no one took responsibility or offered a solution.

In the end, I lost the money I paid for the accommodation due to this complete lack of support, even though I acted well in advance and for legitimate reasons. We ended up booking a Premier Inn instead, which was excellent - clear communication, helpful staff,and exactly as advertised.

By comparison, the service from both Opodo and Novum Hotels was extremely poor. I would not recommend booking through either based on this experience.

The google photos are almost just completely false. The hotel stunk of cigarettes the whole time and our room had a strong odour. The rooms were unclean and our “double bed” was just a big single. The area it is in is absolutely terrible, constantly people begging for money or just completely wasted on drugs also not mentioning the prostitute’s outside all night. I would completely avoid this place, we tried to leave when we arrived but couldn’t find other accommodation. Eventually just left early after the first night. The only positive of this place is the fact it’s close to the bus/train station. You would have to pay me to stay here again.

The only good thing about the hotel is that it's walking distance to the train station. The room was dirty, no AC had to sleep with the window open and its busy street. So it was hard to sleep with all the noise going on outside all night. I asked a few times if I could have a fan but the receptionist looked at me like I was crazy. My suggestion spend a little bit more money and get a better hotel. You will be uncomfortable here.

Do not stay here. The area feels very unsafe, with drunk and drugged people around all day. Our room door didn’t lock, so we had to block it with a chair at night, and the reception staff did not inspire trust. The only positive was the buffet staff, who were attentive and kind. Luggage was stored in an open room accessible to anyone — very unprofessional. Still, it matches the low price and is close to the station and city centre.

The hotel was in a bad neighbourhood and had dark rooms and hallways. The toilets were far away and initially hard to find. The breakfast was very nice, but overall we were happy to only stay for one night.

Terrible district, scary to leave the hotel, rooms small but bearable. Breakfast is inferior but you can eat and the staff is involved in reporting!

I do not recommend the hotel. The photos are from its best moment 30 years ago. Everything is very old-fashioned and the carpeting is pitiful. There are better options nearby but I was fooled by the photos. Located in an area where Yonk** and prost** pass through. Just enough cleanliness to sleep although don't expect to have soap in the bathroom.
