Reviews
Service was often mixed. The guy who welcomed us on arrival was great. First morning we went for breakfast and waited over 30 minutes and never saw a member of staff so no hot food available. On second and third mornings we did have a cooked option which was nice. Limited bread choices also available and a few dried out pastries. Overall this was an ok hotel but quite expensive for the level of service and accommodation provided. Its saving grace was the location. Right by the main square and a host of wonderful restaurants.
We booked this hotel expecting a comfortable stay, but it turned into a nightmare. The room was unbearably hot, and the air conditioning was completely non-functional. When we contacted the front desk, instead of offering a solution or even a fan, the hotel manager was dismissive and outright rude. They refused to provide any relief, claiming “there’s nothing we can do,” and would not allow us to cancel the second night, even though the room was unlivable. Manager said that "we never advertised that we have air conditioning" in the Presidential suite. Our Presidential suite did have AC splits installed, they just didn't blow cold air. The hotel manager was so rude that American Express (credit card) even hung on her an apologized to me about the experience.
We barely slept because of the heat and left feeling frustrated and disrespected. I strongly recommend avoiding this hotel unless you enjoy sweltering rooms, tons of stairs, dark and dated rooms, and unhelpful staff who clearly don’t value their guests.
Second - no welcome drink (literally part of the 'package' that you pay for, not even a bottle of water in the room, literally nothing that would be part of 4 star hotel. Also no bath in bathroom, but seems that baths policy is bit off.
Towels - one hand towel per person, one bit bigger towel. If you want to wrap dry your hair - bring another towel.
And for those coming with a car - NO access with car. Not mentioned anywhere - but if you follow maps - you will end up nowhere. Park far away and walk - albeit 10 minutes it takes to cross whole old town.
Good part would be - location is very central if you miss the touristy gimmicks and souvenir laden shopping. The reception seemed to be bit annoyed that we arrived at the end of her shift but still gave us some good directions around town.
Beds were also comfy, but since there was no bedside light, nor windows - you either sit in the dark or have to blast main light.
So beware - not a bad place but not the glam that the price or website implies. Won't return next time though.
I didn't snap any pictures of my room.
Friendly, helpful service. Old Tallinn has a lot of vibe. I will post pictures of some spots that are all extremely close to the Hotel. I also found Merchant's House affordable.
The room’s air conditioning was broken, which was not mentioned in the room details when we booked. We wanted to open the window to cool down the room, but smoke from outside would easily enter. As a result, the room was uncomfortably warm, and we barely managed to sleep on the first night due to the heat and noise. Although the staff was friendly and provided an extra small fan, it didn't make much difference.
The room itself was larger than expected, with a unique wall protected by UNESCO, as noted on a sign. However, the washroom had a strong unpleasant smell and no sink, requiring us to walk through the bed and sofa areas to the bathroom to wash our hands, which was not hygienic.
The bathroom also lacked a door, and the large bathtub allowed water to spill easily, making it uncomfortable.
On a positive note, the breakfast was okay, with some freshly made options, although we had expected a bit more variety. The central location of the hotel made exploring the Old Town convenient.
the hotel is directly across from a karaoke bar, and it's incredibly loud, even with the windows and shutters closed.
the shower/bath tub was just kinda in the living area, and there was no curtain. there's no way to not get things incredibly wet no matter what you do.
the air conditioner also wasn't working because they removed the remote control from the room!
The hotel's website states: 'A more frequent cleaning and sanitizing regime for high touch surfaces in guest rooms' and Staff Training on Hygienic and Cleaning Processes' but our room wasn't cleaned for 2 days! We mentioned it to reception, but all they told us was that Housekeeping had gone home.
Take note that some rooms supposedly have air-conditioning. Ours had an air-con unit, but it didn't work. We mentioned it to reception, and they said that it wasn’t guaranteed. So if any listing mentions that a room has air-con, beware! Especially in the summer months when the city can get hot.
Our double room was very basic, and nothing like the pictures of a double room on the hotel's website. The website states that 'All of the guest rooms and suites are newly renovated' - this is clearly not the case. Again, beware.
There was no bottled water in the rooms; water was available from reception at €5/litre - that is more than what airports charge!
We had to wait ages to check in as there was only one receptionist; although she was helpful, she was clearly overworked. In general, though, other than when we checked in, the reception staff were not helpful or very interested.
We didn't have breakfast as we were put off by the lack of friendliness of the staff. There are plenty of places close by for breakfast, and with a friendly welcome.
