Located right in the old town so great for exploring on foot but not so great if you are lugging a heavy suitcase because you have to drag that over cobbled streets from the closest point where a taxi can drop you off. Rooms are small and basic but the bed is comfortable and the breakfast choices are good.

verall, the hotel is quite nice, with an excellent location right in the city center, making it perfect for exploring Tallinn on foot. The breakfast was good, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. However, we had serious issues with the internet: the connection in our room didn’t work, and despite asking three times to have it checked, the problem was never resolved. This made our stay a bit difficult, especially for those of us who rely on internet access in the room.

The location of the hotel was ok. While it was situated right in the center of the Old Town, which was convenient, it was also directly across from a live music restaurant/bar that was extremely noisy in the evening between 7 p.m. and 3 a.m. Many people were smoking, chatting, and yelling. Additionally, there was a whiskey and cigar lounge next door with more people smoking and talking outside.
The room’s air conditioning was broken, which was not mentioned in the room details when we booked. We wanted to open the window to cool down the room, but smoke from outside would easily enter. As a result, the room was uncomfortably warm, and we barely managed to sleep on the first night due to the heat and noise. Although the staff was friendly and provided an extra small fan, it didn't make much difference.
The room itself was larger than expected, with a unique wall protected by UNESCO, as noted on a sign. However, the washroom had a strong unpleasant smell and no sink, requiring us to walk through the bed and sofa areas to the bathroom to wash our hands, which was not hygienic.
The bathroom also lacked a door, and the large bathtub allowed water to spill easily, making it uncomfortable.
On a positive note, the breakfast was okay, with some freshly made options, although we had expected a bit more variety. The central location of the hotel made exploring the Old Town convenient.

we booked this hotel originally for a few nights for our stay in old town, but we had to leave after our first night.
the hotel is directly across from a karaoke bar, and it's incredibly loud, even with the windows and shutters closed.
the shower/bath tub was just kinda in the living area, and there was no curtain. there's no way to not get things incredibly wet no matter what you do.
the air conditioner also wasn't working because they removed the remote control from the room!

A good location in the old town. However ...
The hotel's website states: 'A more frequent cleaning and sanitizing regime for high touch surfaces in guest rooms' and Staff Training on Hygienic and Cleaning Processes' but our room wasn't cleaned for 2 days! We mentioned it to reception, but all they told us was that Housekeeping had gone home.
Take note that some rooms supposedly have air-conditioning. Ours had an air-con unit, but it didn't work. We mentioned it to reception, and they said that it wasn’t guaranteed. So if any listing mentions that a room has air-con, beware! Especially in the summer months when the city can get hot.
Our double room was very basic, and nothing like the pictures of a double room on the hotel's website. The website states that 'All of the guest rooms and suites are newly renovated' - this is clearly not the case. Again, beware.
There was no bottled water in the rooms; water was available from reception at €5/litre - that is more than what airports charge!
We had to wait ages to check in as there was only one receptionist; although she was helpful, she was clearly overworked. In general, though, other than when we checked in, the reception staff were not helpful or very interested.
We didn't have breakfast as we were put off by the lack of friendliness of the staff. There are plenty of places close by for breakfast, and with a friendly welcome.

The decor of the hotel looks good. For us the bathtub was in the room (not a separate washroom) so careful if you are friends rather than lovers in a double room. Also, the lights in the room are very dim, and you have to turn on or off each I social one (takes a while). The bathtub is sole standing so there is nothing to hold on for old people.
Not least, the service has been horribly dry (even for Estonia). The receptionist (blond lady with straight hair) does not smile, does not say please, does not look at you when she talks to you. Also it involved many stairs and she left my 87 years old grandpa carry his luggage alone (I had to carry my grandma’s bag). Overall, would not recommend.

Excellent option right by major attractions in Tallinn. It is an older building and that makes it cool and interesting. Rooms are comfortable. I stayed in one across the courtyard, quiet with a nice hot tub. They offer breakfast for 15 euros with both continental and make to order hot options. I recommend it if you are going to spend the day walking around Tallinn.

I highly recommend Merchants House Hotel.
Room: The room is clean but small. I didn't like how the bathroom sink was right next to the shower, as I could never walk in with my socks on.
Location: Very conveniently located. 30 seconds from the main square of the city yet not loud.
Service: This is where Merchants House Hotel shines. The employees at the front desk were extremely helpful and tried to help me have the best experience of the city. Also, when I came back to the hotel soaked in rain, the owner kindly gave me a cup of coffee for free.
The breakfast exceeded my expectations. Given the overall ambience of the hotel, I had expected a modest breakfast buffet you find at 3-4 star hotels. It was much better than that both in terms of variety and quality.
