Hotel Avenida

Just returned from a stay at hotel Avenida with my parents. Looking at the other reviews I think they are reflective of my views. Firstly I would say it’s in a great location, just moments from the seafront, staff are great in all areas and the food was your usual holiday buffet, something for everyone but don’t expect anything too fancy. Prices aren’t expensive for drinks. The hotel seems to cater for the older generation and so did the entertainment which was most nights just a man on keyboards. The sun terrace was good, always got a sun bed, pool small but wasn’t an issue. Generally I feel that the hotel could do with a refurb - corridors were dark, brown doors, dining area felt old fashioned. And the lifts are tiny! Take your hairdryer as the ones in the bathrooms are the ones that look like a hoover but no power at all. I unfortunately had a room without a balcony which ended up being a room facing inwards with a view of a wall, no sunlight, felt absolutely depressing in there, aircon was no good, fridge felt hot outside but didn’t seem to cool anything inside. Thankfully I was able to move to a room with a balcony after 3 nights (with a small supplement) and the room was so much better, aircon worked and fridge too. Nice and bright, so whatever you do make sure you get a room with a balcony! A couple of days I unfortunately had dirty towels (pictured). Would I return …yes, if the hotel had a refurb and I had a balcony!

Breakfast the choice was amazing .. hotel situated right in the centre of the Old Town only downside we had was just a window in our room couldn’t really let air in as we had 2 chimneys chucking out smoke possibly from kitchen as it smelt like fried food .. There was NO kettle or facilities to make a drink in our room . We left our hotel 7.00am to go home without a drink we would need to book a different room next time that’s for sure .. The staff were helpful pleasant although breakfast staff don’t know how to smile they looked miserable!!

The Apartment was really clean. Furniture is dated, however practical and functional. The kitchen was functional, no oven, has microwave oven. One bathroom which was spotless, great water pressure in the shower. Lift has sliding door on ground floor and push open doors on the rest of the floors, they can be a little heavy. Building is wheelchair accessible, I am not sure if the have any accessible flats, whilst you will get a wheelchair into the living room/kitchen space is limited in the bedrooms and our bathroom was not accessible (you would need to contact the manager to ask). There is a rear entrance through the RKS shoe shop (bit like in a Johnny English movie) which is flat and leads to the Apartments, even in the evening there is access through the shop doors. Beds need updating mattress's whilst clean have seen their best days about 10 years ago. All Staff were lovely.

Location is great for the beach, 2 minute walk, for the old town, for shopping, bars within steps of the front or rear doors. New town is a 10/15 minute walk, depending on how eager you are to get there! You can use the facilities in the smart looking hotel across the way.

The only negatives with staying at the Apartments is noise, as the rooms are tiled with solid walls, and the doors are heavy they make a lot of noise when opening and closing. We did have some young folk staying on either side of us, on their first night/early hours they were stood on the landing talking as young folk do, with a little verbal encouragement from Mrs B 'shut up!' they went into their apartments and that was the last we heard from them. Very respectful young folk. We had a room facing the next door apartments, well a wall and some washing. But we were out most of the time or asleep. If you want a view I suppose that will cost more, if you like looking at shops that is and hearing all then crowds passing by!

We probably would stay again as the price is great for a 2 bed apartment. Just go out later and come back in early hours I think would work better!

Just back from a christmas break first impressions receptions so so friendly room was nice but looking onto people's houses we could have upgraded as I already spent nearly 2k I went bugger it domestics were so nice and cheerful I booked full board plus water and wine at dinner meals well breakfast cold lunch started of cold and dry same with dinner spoke to the jet2 rep about it she agreed and got them to turn down the air con down that went down well we were actually pointed out for complaining bar staff very ignorant would I stay at this hotel again yes I would on a room only basis as the hotel was clean comfy and central
