Hotel Avenida

We stayed here from 22/6 to 29/6. We stayed in room 515. Sleep quality was ok,but not great,mattresses were firm to say the least. The biggest let down of this hotel is the lack of coffee making facilities ie NO KETTLE. im sure every British guest would agree that waking in the morning and putting the kettle on before you leave your room is a must! (Reception told me to buy my own kettle) Although the hotel and our room was kept very clean,our room was very tired,mouldy grout round the bath,rusty bath tub, laminate flooring split and worn. Food was just ok,waiting staff did a lot of wandering past your table without actually asking if you needed a drink,some wouldn't even look at you,let alone greet you to the restaurant. Evening entertainment was ok if you were over a certain age and wanted to waltz the night away. On one night we got back and saw a mime act best entertainment at the hotel, hilarious 😂 Reception are very friendly and helpful. Hotel location is very central,everything you desire on your doorstep, or a short walk away. Lifts were an absolute nightmare! One particular night they opened the doors onto a wall,took a good 15 seconds to start moving again...! We always walked down the stairs, and on the odd time up them but very tiring... Bar staff on the whole were friendly and drinks were good. One final observation. The majority of guests are over 60. SUPPLY KETTLES!

Breakfast the choice was amazing .. hotel situated right in the centre of the Old Town only downside we had was just a window in our room couldn’t really let air in as we had 2 chimneys chucking out smoke possibly from kitchen as it smelt like fried food .. There was NO kettle or facilities to make a drink in our room . We left our hotel 7.00am to go home without a drink we would need to book a different room next time that’s for sure .. The staff were helpful pleasant although breakfast staff don’t know how to smile they looked miserable!!

The Apartment was really clean. Furniture is dated, however practical and functional. The kitchen was functional, no oven, has microwave oven. One bathroom which was spotless, great water pressure in the shower. Lift has sliding door on ground floor and push open doors on the rest of the floors, they can be a little heavy. Building is wheelchair accessible, I am not sure if the have any accessible flats, whilst you will get a wheelchair into the living room/kitchen space is limited in the bedrooms and our bathroom was not accessible (you would need to contact the manager to ask). There is a rear entrance through the RKS shoe shop (bit like in a Johnny English movie) which is flat and leads to the Apartments, even in the evening there is access through the shop doors. Beds need updating mattress's whilst clean have seen their best days about 10 years ago. All Staff were lovely.

Location is great for the beach, 2 minute walk, for the old town, for shopping, bars within steps of the front or rear doors. New town is a 10/15 minute walk, depending on how eager you are to get there! You can use the facilities in the smart looking hotel across the way.

The only negatives with staying at the Apartments is noise, as the rooms are tiled with solid walls, and the doors are heavy they make a lot of noise when opening and closing. We did have some young folk staying on either side of us, on their first night/early hours they were stood on the landing talking as young folk do, with a little verbal encouragement from Mrs B 'shut up!' they went into their apartments and that was the last we heard from them. Very respectful young folk. We had a room facing the next door apartments, well a wall and some washing. But we were out most of the time or asleep. If you want a view I suppose that will cost more, if you like looking at shops that is and hearing all then crowds passing by!

We probably would stay again as the price is great for a 2 bed apartment. Just go out later and come back in early hours I think would work better!
