Samaria Hotel

Location:
Perfectly situated away from the heavy crowds, yet close enough to easily walk to all the action. While it borders the main bus depot, the serene garden—with its pool and waterfall—effectively blocks both the view and the noise, creating a surprisingly peaceful atmosphere.

Breakfast:
A delicious spread combining continental staples with authentic Cretan delicacies. A great way to start the day.

Service:
Front desk and valet staff are attentive and welcoming. However, the restaurant service could use improvement—it was often difficult to find a server, as if they were hiding out in the kitchen.

Rooms:
Spacious and comfortable—something you rarely find in accommodations right on the harbor. This location outside the harbor core really pays off in terms of room size.

Bonus:
Live piano music in the evenings adds a charming touch to the ambiance.

They went ABOVE and Beyond, the pictures don't do it justice. The staff, food, amenities, a few minute walking distance to old town. What ever you need they are one step ahead. Calling for a car, directions to packing us a togo bag when we left early to catch a ferry to the next island. We went with our 11 year old, I wouldn't say it's set up to "entertain" kids but he had a wonderful time, the pool was his favorite. Would go back again.

There is absolutely nothing bad that could be said about the Samaria Hotel!

I had a work trip to Chania last month and Katie was able to accommodate our group on short notice. When we arrived after a very long trip, Maria gave us our rooms quickly without the normal confusion at a front desk.

The rooms, small by North American standards, were large for Europe, clean and up to date. The rainfall shower was an amazing feature, excellent for getting rid of a two day trip before the walk to get some dinner. That in itself speaks to the central location of the Hotel, walking distance to everything you need, from groceries, to restaurants to shops and souvenirs, as well as museums and sightseeing.

Our schedule did not align with the breakfast hours, with our team leaving an hour earlier than their normal opening, no problem, the staff opened up the restaurant an hour and a half early! And the best part is you would never have known that it wasn't a normal service. Food was fresh made with an amazing selection of both hot and cold options, fresh fruit was obviously cut that morning, eggs were hot, not dried out with meats and pastry options galore.

When it came to parking the valet service was amazing. again our team's hours were out of the ordinary and well outside of the staff's hours. When the team lead explained, again, the staff
accommodated our needs. Georgio, had our vehicles at the curb ready to go without delaying us in any way.

Georgio in particular became the face of the hotel, always smiling, friendly and familiar, what one wants and needs first thing in a very early morning, and last thing after a long day!

Overall the hotel was truly exceptional! Clean with all the amenities you would want and expect whether traveling for business or on vacation. My only regret is that my lovely wife didn't make the trip with me. But next time she will.

If you ever find the need to travel to Crete, please do yourself a favour and stay at the Samaria!

Great hotel within walking distance of old port. Hotel staff is very attentive and accommodating going above and beyond. They provided us a fruit platter and a bottle of wine as a welcome gift. Parking is valet parking which costs 15 euros a day. Room we got was really spacious and also had a balcony. Breakfast is included in the price of the room. Can't say enough how great the staff was definite A plus. If you are planning to stay in Chania would recommend staying here.

Beautifully renovated old hotel. Great service, particularly the valet parking which is a godsend in the crazy Chania traffic. Fantastic breakfast spread including pastries, fruit, eggs etc and Cretan specialties.

The Ktel bus station and taxi station are downstairs. If you don't drive, it's very convenient. If you drive, parking costs more than ten euros.

Anyone can see the photos of the immaculate rooms or the amazing lobby with the grand piano and the classic romantic aura from the bar lounge. So I will refrain from adding more comments to that… i WILL comment though on something more personal and experiential ! We Fell in love with the bed mattress which resulted in getting late for breakfast. Front desk’s response was … “ don’t worry, although the breakfast has concluded and the buffet has been cleared we will set up a table for two in the bar area for you to have breakfast before checking out, what would you like to eat” mind you we stayed there for one night ONLY ! This might be a 4 star city hotel officially but to our view this is a 7 star service !!! Thank you SAMARIA HOTEL

Amazing location and staff so polite!!!!

The service staff is very friendly. It is right next to the bus station, which is very convenient and close to the lighthouse. The only drawback is that the room is not very soundproof. Recommended.
