Reviews
It was a great, pleasant stay and I can particularly highlight the excellent location of the place, right at the center of the historical center of the city, the excellent service, the very polite and helpful stuff and the wonderful breakfast.
Gladly we'd pick at the same place again for our next visit to Rome.
We had lots of little birds on our balcony today. The balcony is gorgeous and very romantic.
Our breakfast was very good. I had scrambled eggs and a spinach mush and a pumpkin mush....both super yummy. And, of course, a cappuccino.
The hotel is all marbled and beautiful wood with lots of detailed work. We have a bidet with special soap for your privates. If there is one light switch, there are a hundred. Our room is 3 rooms and a stunning balcony - a bedroom with a window that overlooks a small street. I opened the window this morning and then opened the shutters....so romantic to look out at the windows and balconies across the street. Then we have a sitting room with the biggest chaise lounge i have ever seen, covered in velvet and lots of pillows. Lovely to nap on. There are windows on two sides of this room with beautiful heavy velvet curtains over delicate curtains. The French doors flanked by windows open onto the patio, and the other windows open onto the side street. Finally, in our bathroom, we have a deep spa tub/shower, a sink and toilet, and bidet. There is a skylight in our ceiling with beautiful glass.
All the furnishings range in age from maybe 5 years to maybe 200 years. They have modern full-length mirrors with beautiful antique mirrors hung in front. It is a stunning effect.
I thought noise would be an issue, but once the windows were closed, it was just like being out in the country... except that at 9 a.m. we woke to the lovely sound of cathedral bells. Just such an over the top sensory experience.
All in all, we would rebook. The price was reasonable and the hotel is beautiful on the eyes.
So in summary I was really pleased and yes would stay here again. I am a normal tourist and not a hotel staff member.
They have an old air system that doesn’t work properly! I had the worse 2 nights in my trip at this hotel coz the summer here is really hot.
I was waking up all the time sweating like I was in a sauna.
Breakfast also very basic.
I do not recommend this hotel at all.
They also charged the maximum tax city which is €7,50 per night / per person.
We stayed there 3 nights in total we paid over €40 in taxes for a hotel that doesn’t have air conditioner working properly lol.
We arrived in Rome early in the morning via train at the Roma Termini. The hotel was roughly a half mile from the station and we had a gentle hill to ascend with our suitcases, so it was a simple journey.
Check in was at 14:00, but the hotel graciously agreed to hold our baggage until we had access to our room. We asked the concierge/front desk to suggest a restaurant, and, without hesitation, she immediately recommended Osteria Oliva, a small cafe that was about a 10 minute walk from our hotel. She also told us she would phone ahead and make a lunch reservation for 12:30. We still had plenty of time to kill, so we walked to Trevi Fountains, which was within a 15 minute walk from the hotel. Of course, there were thousands of tourists there, so we slowly ambled to the cafe. Holy wow what a treat that was! I’ll post that review separately.
When we returned to the hotel, our luggage was already in our room, and check in was a snap! Our room was on the 3rd floor, but we had a small (very small) elevator, so getting up and down was a simple prospect.
Our room was spacious and comfortable. There was a safe in the closet, an ironing board, and a hair dryer. It also included a wine fridge (with wine available for purchase at a reasonable price) along with a vanity table. In addition, a teapot/kettle was available along with several tea selections.
The shower was spacious and offered an amazingly refreshing rain shower head that had ample water pressure, and hot water in abundance. The bathroom also had a bidet next to the toilet.
Now, this is where the hotel separates itself from the competition …
The hotel also offered free “excursions” of many different varieties. Most were walking tours of the area and explored local cuisine. We attended as many of the complimentary tours as possible, and dearly wished we could attend them all. We thoroughly enjoyed the free tours and would stay at this hotel brand just because we loved the experience. Totally worth it!
The hotel was perfectly situated for walking tours. The Colosseum, Roman Forum, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Spanish Steps, and so many other sites were all within a 20 minute walk, and with minimal hills to climb. The Vatican was closer to a 50 minute walk.
The hotel also offered an elegant complimentary breakfast that included eggs and bacon (pancetta), ample fruit and pastry selections, three freshly squeezed juice selection (I highly recommend the blood orange juice), along with cappuccinos and lattes, or Cafe Americana.
The staff was eager to be of service and constantly sought ways to make our stay as comfortable as possible.
On our final day, they made a taxi reservation for us, and refused to let us carry our own luggage! I can’t wait to return to my new “home away from home!” We’ll never go to Rome again without staying at Hotel Britannia.
