It's a lovely hotel. We visited it mainly for the SPA facilities, which are exceptional. The breakfast and dinner are also good - plenty of delicious food for everyone.
The rooms are good size with a large bed, but no air conditioner. You can go for a walk in the area or you can visit the Veterans Hut which is around 4 km from the hotel. Highly recommend.

Things we liked:
- stunning setting against the mountains tops, quiet place
- many food options that are cooked well and rotate every day
- pools were clean and well maintained
- a lot of activities for kids
- decent service
Things we didn’t care for:
- no A/C…unacceptable for a place at this price point. We went in mid august and the place was stuffy the whole time
- not enough elevators - it took 15+ minutes going up or down
- some parts of the resort were fairly worn down, lobby is a good example
- the resort does price gouging at lunch, great that breakfast and dinner were included but the prices at the restaurant and cafes when you had to pay were absurd. I’d rather you charge more for the stay and make it all inclusive.
- landscaping happening during pool hours with grass being cut flying all over guests, do it in the morning or evening

+ Great view from the infinity pool and the restaurant
- No air conditioning
- We were in Villa 1, and the cleaning ladies room was right below us. They were loud in the mornings, waking us up, and they were smoking below our window, so our bedroom was constantly smelling like cigarettes
- Pretty much everything was outworn
- The staff were friendly, but lacked experience and organization
Definitely not the level you expect for a 4* hotel, it wasn't very bad, but we won't come back

Katarino is one of the best SPA hotels available in the country. The location is beautiful with an amazing view over the mountain. The high quality of service is visible everywhere - welcoming staff, spotless clean facilities, amazing food (most of which locally produced). Pool and SPA areas are very relaxing and well maintained.
The only things that bothered us were the lack of air conditioning (which is going to be fixed soon), the slightly amortised furniture in the rooms and the lack of complimentary coffee in the rooms ( for a 5 star hotel I would expect such a small gesture).
We look forward to coming back again!

No air conditioner in the rooms. Not good for the summer seasons. Also, not suits good for the 4/5 stars of the hotel. Other, than that everything is pretty much what you expect from such hotel. Great food and super kind personnel.

Rooms don't fully correspond to the five-star pretentions (relatively small, no AC, very basic shower etc.). Service is good though, and the buffet restaurant is probably the best in the whole area

Spa facilities are extremely good and plenty of space for everyone.
We stayed one Friday and Saturday in April and could only use the indoor facilities which are wonderful. Outside there is a large pool that must be ideal for the summer.
Rooms are a good size and are well equipped.
For breakfast the choice is plentiful and fresh, the evening meal was also very good but the meat was just a little overcooked for my personal choice, but that is not uncommon for Bulgaria.
What did impress me was that both for dinner and breakfast there was plenty of space to seat everyone, even though the hotel was full.
All the staff were polite and friendly.
Highly recommended, we will definitely be back again.

This hotel is for families with small children. Don’t go the if you expect quiet and relaxed stay. The quality of the food is very high! The service is also good with the exception that they have too few tables and you have to look for free tables.
