Rome Garden Hotel

room on 2nd floor, room cramped for 3 people, no place to rest luggage, bathroom stall very small, no ledge for toiletries, etc. water temp and pressure varies as you shower, worst of all a/c working very low so spent 3 nights in sweltering 28C heat had to open windows for cooldown, management admitted a/c antiquated, temp in mini bar was barely cool so no cold drinks. On return 4 days later placed in separate building room 504 which had very good a/c and mini-fridge, but did not make up for original 3 sleepless nights. Clearly original building needs a/c and mini-bar update!

The room was spacious with a small balcony, but unfortunately, there was no furniture or seating available on it. The beds were fine, but the duvets only had flat sheets wrapped around them instead of proper covers, which felt a bit unhygienic. While some toiletries were provided (like a shower cap, cotton pads, and swabs), one of the packages had clearly been opened before — again, unhygenic. The shower doors were broken and couldn’t be fully closed. The room was extremely noisy — we could hear both traffic and other guests very clearly. Our fridge overheated and was placed inside a very dusty closet, which honestly felt like a fire hazard. It took several complaints before it was replaced, and although we were promised compensation, we never received any. Service was very inconsistent. On the first day, we were told nothing could be done. The next day, suddenly things were possible — all depending on who you talked to. When we finally got to speak with the manager, she responded with a very rude “Are you happy now?” and barely spoke any English. On the positive side, some staff members were kind and helpful. Breakfast was just okay. Items were rarely refilled unless we asked, even when we came down at different times to check. The hot dishes were often cold, despite being in warming containers. Some staff members were even rude when we asked them to refill breakfast items. Overall, I wouldn’t stay here again. There were too many issues with cleanliness, safety, and service.

The outside of the hotel is well kept, with flowers, plants and shrubs. We had room 502, which gave us a nasty surprise when we checked in. The room is spacious, but has a strong musty smell. The bed is completely cracked on one side, there's mold on the bathroom walls and the hairdryer doesn't work very well. The photos available on the website are not at all representative of reality.

Recently spent five days here and unfortunately could not recommend it overall.
The location isn't the best as it is a fair walk from center and not a lot nearby worth going to. The rooms are not actually in the main hotel where reception is but about two blocks away in a strange gated compound with a tower block, the block interior is very dark and quite gloomy marble.

The rooms are fairly modern and seemed clean enough but they are not large double windowed rooms like the photos shown when we booked. We booked as a family and they put is one small , one windowed room together with barely enough room to get around the beds, just one room with a small bathroom, that's it so no good for a family really, i would have hoped they would put larger parties in a larger room?!. The room was also cold and the heating didn't seem to work. The main reception guys where absolutely lovely, no complaints there at all and the staff we did see where also very nice and polite however the guy appeared to be the hotels general manager was frankly horrible, the most unpleasant and unhelpful person i met in Rome.

The Breakfast area is very small, the coffee is not very good and much of the hot food was stone cold even when we arrived early and the pastries where not very fresh. We ended up going to a local place for fresh breakfast the last few mornings. This is a cheaper end hotel , and there is a reason. I would say if you're a young couple on a budget this place is just fine, but if you're a family or group and want better rooms and food pay a little more for somewhere else.
Thing that would move this to a 3/4 star:
Tell people the rooms are not in main hotel before they arrive
Get much better lighting in the main tower block
Find a way to reduce the amount of keys required!! (5 keys)
Book families in a larger room (they are more likely to come back again)
Get fresh pastries
Get better coffee beans
Put a sign out offering to reheat any hot food offerings
Get a new canopy and get rid of that horrible fake green grass on the path
keep and thank the staff! they are the only 5 star asset you have.
