The spectacular Jumeirah Burj Al Arab-designed to resemble the graceful sails of an Arabian dhow-rises to a height of 321 meters dominating the Dubai coastline. The all-suite hotel is situated on a man-made island some 280 metres offshore and is linked to the mainland by a slender-gently curving bridge. Each of the 197 suites is arranged over two floors and all with floor to ceiling-wall to wall windows and tranquil views of the sea. I had a confirmed reservation at Jumeirah Burj Al Arab for a Club Suite costing approximately USD 4,000 per night.
I arrived at the hotel using an airport transfer arranged and charged by the hotel itself (Rolls-Royce service).
Upon arrival, I was informed that the reserved suite was not available and would only be ready around 5:00 PM.
No equivalent alternative suite was available, and no acceptable interim solution was offered.
As a result, despite having a confirmed booking at an ultra-luxury hotel, I was effectively asked to wait several hours with no access to the accommodation I had paid for. I considered this unacceptable and decided to leave the property and secure another hotel.
What was particularly concerning is that the hotel initially stated that refunds were not possible due to internal policy, even though the room was unavailable due to their own operational issue.
Only after formal escalation did the hotel confirm the cancellation of the reservation and the refund.
At this price level and brand positioning, guests reasonably expect:
• room availability upon arrival,
• proactive solutions in case of operational issues,
• and clear accountability when the core service is not delivered.
This experience was stressful, time-consuming, and disappointing, and not aligned with what one would expect from a hotel of this reputation.
My advice to future guests:
do not assume that a confirmed reservation guarantees immediate room availability, and make sure all critical aspects are reconfirmed in writing prior to arrival.

Amazing breakfast spread as well with superb views.
Our room was on the lower levels so views were not as good. The rooftop restaurant offers a very good view.
