JUFA Hotel HafenCity

Modern hotel on the edge of Hafencity, an area which has been reclaimed from disused parts of the port of Hamburg. We chose it because it is reasonably close to the Elbphilharmonie concert hall, I.e. about half an hour's walk. It is also easy to reach by car and right next to an underground stop, which links it directly to the very centre of Hamburg, and about 15 minutes walk from the massive, newly opened Westfield shopping centre. That said, the immediate vicinity of the hotel is a bit barren. We spent two evenings in the hotel bar, because there was nothing else around within staggering distance. The service was very friendly and efficient, both in the bar and at reception. A final point to mention is that the hotel is notably child friendly and provides tricycles, prams and children's activities in the reception area.

Ratings based on hotel pricing. Based on cost rooms and service were excellent. The big surprise was the food at the buffet which was very very good, considering that we are talking about buffet. Congrats to chef for that.

Nice spacious clean hotel. It is close to the U Bahn for easy access to downtown Hamburg. The rooms were very quiet even with a railway outside the window. There is an Aldi close by if you need some extra snacks.

Breakfast was excellent with a lot of choices. But the bedroom was not like on the picture, very used the walls are not cleaned… they would need to make a little renovation.
But ideal spot if you go to the Philharmonie it is 10mn by foot !

If you travel with kids, it is the place . Without kids, don't stay . Kids take food from the breakfast buffet in their hands and put the food back onto the buffet . There is no phone in the room .I called the reception from my cellphone, but there was no answer. I was told the next day on the key card envelope is a QR code. Scan the code, and you will find an EMAIL ADDRESS. Just send us an EMAIL . I say in an emergency that's too late .

Hotel with generous indoor space in the hafen city. Clean and modern rooms, each named after a coastal town, how cool is that? Delicious breakfast. I think for a professional hotel it ticks all the boxes.

Location:
Convenient located with the U4 metro on the doorsteps. The U4 takes you to central Hamburg in a few minutes. Jungfernstieg is two stops.
The stop is quite close to U4 terminus so it's not that crowded.

You'll also find bus 111 a few meters down the road. The 111 takes you to Minieatur Wonderland, Hamburg Dungeon, Reperbahn, Landungsbrücke (start point for many harbourcruises and public transport boats and close to St.Michaels Church) and other central parts of Hamburg.

One stop away you'll find Überseequartier with a amazing playground with wateractivities on hot days. There is also a nice playground a few meters down and across the canal.

There is really noting to do around to hotel, so you have to rely on public transport. But if you're travelling with children it is worth it, as this first and foremost is a family hotel. If you're travelling as a couple and would like to find restaurants on the doorsteps, find another hotel.

Nice, helpful and welcoming.

Large and spacious reception.
Two nice playrooms (one of them for the smaller children) kept the busy for some while. Our kids ran down while we were finishing up our breakfast.

Rooms:
Spacious and clean with what you can expect. Seems to be clean.
Beds are a bit firm, and we could wish for some extra pillows.
We stayed in two connecting rooms. Seems to be a ventilation-issue in the bathrooms. Things literally never dried.

Conclusion:
Jufa is a excellent choice if you're travelling with children, and we would probably chose Jufa again.
If you're on a couples trip as a tourist in Hamburg you'll probably find a better located hotel.
