Hotel Santo Domingo

Definitely not a 4 star hotel. We had booked it for four nights unfortunately and was with my family on vacation. Rooms are small and stuffy. They smell bad and carpets are dirty and dated. Rooms AC control is the main problem. We like the room to be cooler and the management controls the heating during winter. The room heated up at night with no fan blowing and it made the room very stuffy and hot in the night. We asked the reception to reduce the temperature or give us the control. They said they cannot give the control and asked us to open the windows, which did not help as it was super noisy outside. I guess they are just cutting cost by maintaining/controlling the temperature. Besides we could also hear the conversations and even bathroom usage from our neighbors as the walls were not insulated at all. Forget about any amenities here. Will never stay here again and do not recommend this hotel to anyone. There are much better hotels nearby which have the same location benefits. Please avoid staying here.

I don't know how this is a 4 star hotel. I was in charge of a big group reservation and 30% rooms were borderline unlivable. They have ok (but dated) rooms in one part of the building. Then they have a lot of rooms in another part of the building (through a maze of halls and some stairs). They don't tell you where they'll put you until you arrive. Pray you are not in the back rooms. Moldy, dirty carpet. Strong disgusting smell when we arrived and they said they would fix it. When we came back there was an even stronger chemical smell (air freshener, they said) like they had just covered one smell with the other. They are so many better spots to stay in Madrid center.
