Vincci Capitol Hotel

I booked this hotel dreaming of sipping a drink on their “stunning rooftop terrace,” as shown in their glossy photos. Reality check: the terrace had all the charm of a bus stop, featuring… a concrete bench. The rooftop bar? Closed for a “private event.” Apparently, hotel guests are just inconvenience.

Speaking of surprises, brace yourself for the daily €100 “deposit” — not disclosed until check-in. Supposedly for the minibar, which contains a few lonely bottles of water and soda (not even alcohol). Mechelinin star price for a corner shop selection.

The room itself looked nice enough, but calling it four stars feels generous. None of the amenities that 4 star hotels normally have: no kettle, no coffee, no tea, no iron, no body lotion, no hair conditioner… only a toothbrush that seemed like it had seen better days just like the drab hotel lobby.

And the bathtub? Perfect for anyone who enjoys the challenge of trying to plug a drain that simply won’t close. So much for my relaxing bath — I guess that was also “for a private event.”

In short: come here if you enjoy paying premium rates for budget-hotel perks, surprises at check-in, and the thrill of realizing the marketing photos belong to an alternate universe. Glossy photos taken years ago, hidden fees, and missing basics. If you enjoy overpaying for under-delivering, this is the hotel for you.

I recently stayed at this hotel and while the location couldn’t be better—right in the heart of the city and close to everything—the overall experience left much to be desired.

First, the booking process was frustrating. The online payment system had issues and didn’t properly confirm our reservation. When we arrived, the staff were not welcoming or helpful. There are steps at the entrance, and the doorman just stood there without offering to help with luggage—something I’ve never experienced at other Vincci hotels, where the staff are far more attentive.

The room was aesthetically nice with a good view of Gran Vía, but it wasn’t what was advertised. The bathroom in the photos included a bidet, which was a deciding factor for me, but the actual room did not. The bathroom also wasn’t very clean upon arrival—there was a strand of hair in the tub and a stain that should have been noticed. The shower had mold stains, and the bathroom door stuck and wouldn’t close properly.

Amenities were underwhelming for the price. Only one small water bottle was provided, and none were available in the lobby—you’re expected to go out and buy your own. There were no slippers, robes, or body lotion, and we had to ask for slippers separately. Even the towels felt worn out and weren’t consistently replaced; we had to request clean towels multiple times. During our three-day stay, housekeeping seemed to only do the bare minimum without changing sheets or fully refreshing the room.

The rooftop has a beautiful view, but the hours are too limited. It closed early at night and wasn’t open during the day on Tuesday, which felt like a missed opportunity given how much the view is part of the hotel’s appeal.

Overall, the location and design are great, but the lack of attention to detail, cleanliness, and basic hospitality—especially compared to other Vincci hotels—made the stay disappointing. A little effort on amenities and service would go a long way in matching the premium price point.

Rooms lovely , great location.....noisy very noisy due to music venue next door. Music starts late, and goes on till midnight ish. Loud enough to hear the singing clearly in room on both nights. Complained first night to staff, they were not bothered, failed to record my concerns. Happening again on my 2nd night.... will not recommend here for peaceful nights. For the money I paid I expect better, much better oh and sleep

This hotel was a complete disaster from start to finish. Check-in was a nightmare—it took forever, and our room wasn’t even ready until after 4 PM, which was incredibly frustrating after a long day of travel. When we finally got to our room, we were hit with a horrible sewer smell that made the room unbearable to stay in. To make matters worse, the customer service was terrible. The staff was rude, unhelpful, and clearly didn’t care about our experience. They offered no apologies or solutions, just excuses and attitude. For the price and hassle, this place is absolutely not worth it. I would never stay here again.
