This hotel has exceeded my expectations for how badly a hotel can be run. We booked our rooms over a year ago after extensive research and this place had good reviews, so we went for it. This hotel experience has been bad enough for us to consider ending the trip early. We got the superior balcony rooms and they ushered us into the “old” section of the hotel, so not one that was photographed on the website, meaning this room was a shock to see. The room smelled of cigarettes (like the carpet and the bedding and the drapes) and the air conditioner did not work the ENTIRE night, our thermostat said it was set to 19 degree Celsius, but never made it down past 75-78 degrees Fahrenheit. We communicated this frustration and frank disappointment to the front desk, it wasn’t a room we picked off the website and the one that was given smelled and was hot, but also right in a construction zone that began work at 7:30AM. The front desk and supervisor who spoke with us on the phone could not have been less helpful, the supervisor laughed loudly at me and said “I don’t know what they do in your country” and “you have all the problems in the world” and “go find somewhere else then”. The front desk just kept saying there’s nothing she can do and to deal with it, and maybe the manager would be back on site in 48 hours to assist, but no promises. They moved us to another room after much protest as they saw fit to keep our money despite all the issues that were on the hotel side of things, but the new room still has severe air conditioning issues. You can find 100 other hotels in the city with better management and better rooms than this, don’t book here, and definitely don’t stay in room 303. This is our 4th time staying in Rome, but the 1st time any of this is happening to us. Save yourself the money and go elsewhere.

DO NOT STAY HERE. My friend invited me on a trip with her to Rome and she had booked this hotel well in advance. Unfortunately she had made this reservation well in advance and did not see the terrible reviews they’ve been receiving as of late. My friend booked a superior room with a balcony and the room smelled like cigarette smoke and the AC did not work. When we asked to be moved they said the only other room that was a superior was “under construction”. This was never communicated and I had a great time being woken up at 7 AM with construction noise above us. When we complained the girl at the front said that “they usually wait until everyone wakes up to start”. Strange because I was not awake at 7 AM. Management is NEVER at this hotel. So do not book a non refundable room because no matter the issue no one will reach out to you or help resolve it. Unfortunately front desk is not equipped to deal with these issues and yet management is never available. Pretty shady tactics used by these people. I would not book here if I were you. I usually try not to be too critical but the only person that was truly helpful was a front desk named Rolando. However he is limited to what he can do. We were eventually moved to a regular room however it’s been days since we checked in and a manager has not refunded us the difference for the room rates. Very sketchy. There is a supervisor that we spoke to and he literally laughed in our face when we asked for a refund. I have him on video admitting to it however it is too long to post here. There’s so many hotels to choose from my suggestion is to stay far far away. If you’ve already booked, try to cancel. At this point this stay will be disputed through the bank since the manager/ owner is supposedly on vacation and not answering calls. Don’t think that’s true which is why I am suggesting anyone to stay far away.

We are so glad we decided on staying at Hotel Rovere! It was the perfect location for us, it’s not in the center of crowded rome but close enough that we could walk to any of the major sightseeing locations comfortably. We were super close to vatican city! Less than 15 minute walk. The room we got was the basic room and it was perfect. The bathroom was large and shower spacious. The room was always cool when we would get back from a long day in the heat. The hotel itself is super chic and we felt very safe and comfortable there. The concierge was super helpful when we had to get a taxi at 5:30am. We 100% would stay at this hotel again. No regrets or complaints here!

Location was OK, but for the price we ended up finding a better hotel in a better location where they didn't lie about the room we booked. We had booked an upper floor with balcony and they tried to put us on the lower floor with no balcony. Since that's not what we paid for we said we wanted to cancel and found a better hotel.
We had to dispute with our credit card company because they still tried to charge us. Do yourself a favor and find an honest hotel. The owners of this place are shady.

We had an absolutely amazing experience at this hotel!
The staff is extremely friendly and helpful, the breakfast is delicious, the decor is lovely.
Our room was beautiful and clean. Highly recommend getting one with a balcony - we had a jaw-dropping view of the city.
Fantastic location: just a few minutes away from the Vatican! And it's in the Trastavere neighborhood, which is full of amazing restaurants and shops.
Cannot recommend this place enough!! We had a fantastic time at Hotel Rovere.

First trip to Roma, but the cost was worth the 3rd floor balcony where we could see into the city a bit. Room was small, but figure that is the going size in Italy.
Bed was comfortable, bathroom was good. Safe in the room was nice to have, but that terrace...wonderful! We sat out there in the evenings with some Lemoncello and just enjoyed the sights and sounds of Rome.
One drawback was the security lock on the door was misaligned and not functioning.
Front seat staff was VERY helpful and gave great suggestions for gelato and dinner. Even helped with travel arrangement suggestions.
A great start to our Italian holiday.

Horrible experience with this hotel. We were promised a room on the higher floors with a balcony but given a ground floor very dark room. Also be careful with the elevator. My friend was stuck in the elevator for 30+ minutes and had to crawl out between floors. We refused the room and had to find a different hotel. To add insult to injury they charged us even more than the overly priced room that we refused to stay in. I’m contesting charges through my credit card. Don’t stay here!

I booked 3 deluxe rooms in this hotel. They were beautifuly decorated and very new and clean. The hotel is in a very quiet back street when the window is closed you hear nothing. The alley people keep talking about is not dark and there are street lights. If I were a woman traveling alone I think at night I would be scared too, but if not alone it was OK. The breakfast is very impressive for a European hotel. Great selections with also fresh fruit. Beds were comfortable. There is a city regulation in place regarding the use of air conditioners. It is set by the hotel so we could not switch from hot to cold and had to sleep with windows open (and then you Do hear the city), but the noise was bearable. Overall, well worth the price. Location is great.

I was visiting Rome to visit my daughter, and this location was perfect. 5 minutes from the Vatican, 15 from Trastevere and 25 minutes to the Steps and Fountain (...I am a fast walker).
Access to all the popular locations for me was excellent, as I like to walk at a fast pace. Location to the Vatican is amazing.
The access street is very narrow, though the taxi drivers managed maneuvering to it ok. When you leave the hotel to start walking anywhere, there is a very narrow lane to get to the main road...it looks a little daunting at first, though it was completely safe and well-lit, even when I returned a few times in the early morning hours.
Quirky access and entrance to the hotel aside, the rooms were spotless, and staff extremely friendly and helpful. Bed and pillows were very comfortable. Water pressure in the small shower (by American standards) was very good, and hot. Drinking the tap water was also perfect. Even the Wi-Fi was great.
I Stayed 7 days and never had any issues....they even changed out some of the windows and door frames while I was there...with no problems.
Once you get over the quirky lane access ...it's a great clean and very comfortable place.
