Fortezza Hotel

From the our arrival to leaving the staff were amazing.The morning receptionist (sorry forgot your name) To the fabulous Effi who served at breakfast and served food and drinks to our sun beds at the pool with a smile and a chat Every great thing mentioned in reviews was correct and I include the fact the poolside food is fab,plenty and not overpriced.See my photos. Location is ideal for the little streets in the old town but not as convenient for the beach in the heat with walking problems. (We took a taxi) Not one fault could I find in the hotel But lots that exceed my expectations of a 3 star. Including the towels provided at the pool. Waitress service with drinks/ food too. Free WiFi & Aircon Would recommend this hotel every time

What an absolute gem. There is nothing bad about this place. Centrally located in the old town, an abundance of restaurants and shops at your fingertips. Overlooking the fortress. Walking distance to harbour and beach. Hotel staff friendly and super helpful, spotlessly clean. Fabulous pool and plentiful breakfast. Would recommend to everyone!

It is a very nice and stylish hotel, very comfortable and relaxing too. Our stay started as a disappointment with the room we have got and the reception clerk that didn’t show any care about the situation. Though, the problem was quickly solved the next day with a kind help of a wonderful lady - Chrisoula, who literally saved our stay and made it so much more satisfying. The hotel itself is a very cozy place. Breakfast was simple but tasty and filling. Lots of sitting areas around the pool and in the lobby makes the hotel feel welcoming and inviting. The location is very convenient too. It is located right in the old part of the city, not too far from the port and close to many points of interest. Huge amount of excellent restaurants are right around the place. Would definitely recommend staying there if you are visiting Crete.

A great hotel nearby everything. Not perfect for families with small children for the pool is not for play. Kind people and fresh!

The hotel is really well-situated with lots of shops and restaurants within a few minutes' walk. The rooms are immaculately clean, and the staff are so friendly. Breakfast is lovely and fresh. Although the pool area is quite small, there are plenty of sun beds as well as shady places to relax. Would recommend to anyone looking for a stress-free break.

Definitely recommend this lovely hotel! Right in the centre for everything. Great supermarket over the road. Most staff really lovely and great breakfast. Lovely pool, really quite warm and refreshing and you can have towels if you require them. Rooms as standard in Greece, but very very clean! Really fantastic little hotel and I would stay again in a heartbeat .. great shops, restaurants, cafes, bars, the fort, harbour .. just brilliant 🤩

Just returned from our 3rd visit in as many years and had another great holiday. We got a front facing balcony room, as requested (bit smaller than the pool side ones but love people watching from balcony, and most of day in shade), and room was comfortable, large bed with good mattress, enough storage, excellent air con, and as always spotlessly clean. Decent sized fridge, kettle available from reception. Bathroom quite small, had everything required (except magnifying mirror), including mini bottles of shower wash and shampoo. Hotel grounds are very nice, plenty of areas for guests to sit including the pool area. Hotel was full and while there is not a huge amount of space for loungers around pool, there’s plenty of space a bit further back and loungers never run out. Pool towels are available at reception. At times it felt busy, but most people would be by the pool for a few hours at the time, only some would be there all day. Lots of guests who went to the beach, 15-20 minutes walk (the nearest beach does not allow swimming etc because it is protected to allow turtles to nest). Breakfast was as good as before, excellent selection including freshly baked cakes and savoury bites which varied daily. Plenty of fresh fruit, and yoghurt and feta cheese of course. Everything was restocked throughout breakfast time. We ate by the pool pretty much every day, available till 4pm, good quality and reasonably priced. Bar is open from after breakfast till 11pm. We previously stayed in September which on reflection we prefer - not quite as hot and humid, also guests were pretty much all older couples, which made for a quieter ambiance. This time more of a mix, with a few families and some younger people. The best thing about the hotel apart from its old town location and amenities are its lovely staff - everyone was very friendly, professional and it felt like a home from home. We’ll be back!

Really enjoyed our stay. Rooms are a bit basic and dated but for a 3 star price it is value for money. Beds and pillows are really comfortable. The pool is lovely and warm as it is in the sun but the surrounding pool area is quite small for sunbeds. However, most people seemed to go to the beach so there was always room in the shade. Breakfast gets monotonous and needs more variety. Great location for all the wonderful restaurants in the Old Town and Harbour and the supermarket across the road is very convenient. Fifteen minute walk to the beach (further you walk, the sunbeds become cheaper or free with a drink order). Would definitely stay again.

Rethymnon is a gem of a town and this hotel makes it super easy to enjoy it fully. The room was fine but nothing special. The courtyard pool and snackbar were superb, very relaxing, good food and drinks. Pay Parking in front, the hotel advertises it as €10 a day but you have to check in first and then park your car! Were do you leave your car during check in? Hanging in a tree since there's no drop off zone? I parked the car first and then asked the receptionist to come with me when leaving so I payed the advertised price. That was really nice of her, thank you.

Where to start from the moment we arrived to the minute we left nothing was too much for the amazing staff here at the fortezza. We ha e had an amazing 10 days. The rooms are immaculate and have everything you need. Maybe one more pillow needed but really nit picking. Breakfast is fresh and replenished constantly with lovely local and fresh produce. Something for everyone. Sophie you are amazing keep smiling. ❤️ only one small change would be to serve decaf coffee. See you all next June. Kalimera
