Review: Fortune Karama Hotel – A Lesson I Never Seem to Learn

Every time I choose to stay at Fortune Karama Hotel, I end up regretting it, and honestly wonder why I put myself through it again. The short answer is simple: the pub downstairs. It’s the only redeeming feature of this hotel — a genuinely pleasant venue offering reasonably priced lager that’s hard to find in Dubai. Unfortunately, what the pub gets right, the hotel fails at in almost every respect.

On this stay, I would strongly recommend avoiding Rooms 242 and 244. These rooms are extremely poorly maintained, old, and very basic. The shower fittings don’t work properly, the paint is peeling, and the general condition is far below acceptable standards. (See attached photos.)

The staff performance is, at best, mediocre. I checked out at midnight, but when my flight was delayed, I called to ask if I could keep the room I had already paid for. They refused outright — no flexibility, no understanding, no attempt to offer solutions. It was a perfect example of weak customer service delivered by staff who appear untrained and indifferent.

In the end, I guess you get what you pay for: a very substandard hotel at a low, budget-friendly rate. But even at that price point, basic maintenance and a minimum level of customer care shouldn’t be too much to expect.

I will not make the mistake of staying at this hotel ever again — though I will continue visiting the pub downstairs, which remains the only bright spot in an otherwise disappointing experience.

So disappointed because I was sick and couldn’t go there and I tried so hard to convince them to give me refund or cancellation or re scheduled but they didn’t do anything 😔🤦🏻♀️my money was lost and I didn’t get any  of my money back😡
