Medplaya Hotel Regente in Benidorm

Just returned from Regente hotel. It wasn't that I expected from a 4* hotel, rooms not over big, cleanliness ok but bed sheets never changed all week only fresh towels and bins emptied, shower tray not vleaned regularly. No drinks service in restaurant, no table Cloths, waitresses slow to clear dirty plates. Location good if you like a nice walk to main centre and good nights sleep. Lifts the best I've had for speed to higher floors. Reception staff very pleasant, pool area could do with some maintenance as quite a few slabs uneven. Overall I'd say more a 3 - 3s hotel.

Food wasn't the best used 2 time during my stay as it wasn't any good poor quality /taste less or food rock hard from been under the lamps all other 4 star Hotels bring you drinks or what water to your table on waiter service here you have to go the bar and there wasn't much choice of deserts . And tempreture out side at night was 22° but air conditioning wasn't working asked at reception reception told they would send someone to the room then to be told at the night it was red hot in the room phone reception that evening to be told its switched off this time of the year it didn't state this on the booking and had to sleep with balcony door open due to not been able to sleep due to heat

Before going I had read mixed reviews and so was a little sceptical. On arrival we were checked in quickly but we were then met with the lifts. I'd seen plenty of reviews mentioning the lifts. There are 2 small lifts which don't stop just because you have pressed the button, as we found out when both lifts went to minus 1 then upper floors all while we waited on the ground for about 10 minutes. When the lift eventually came it wouldn't move with 4 people and cases so I took the stairs. We spent a lot of time waiting for lifts during the week due to joint conditions. When we arrived to our rooms they were pleasant enough. Quite small but enough room to move around. I was disappointed with the tea tray as you are expected.to pay to top it up. There was only enough milk for one drink and that's not each. I took my.own supply as I refuse to pay for a top up for a basic that is free almost everywhere else. The room Mostly clean except some odd small gaps in the bathroom that was going mouldy because it's not an easy space to clean. The cleaner came everyday to ask if we needed any cleaning. First trip to the bar was pleasant enough. We were informed about was was included on all inclusive and what wasn't as were staying All Inclusive. There were a few grumpy faces but they soon cheered up when we paid for drinks after 11pm and even left a tip. Some people really do talk to staff like servants rather than humans at work for the day. Breakfast was OK. Edible but fairly tasteless and cold. I still Managed to eat and I except I am a fussy eater. We never had lunch in the restaurant as we were either out or more than happy with the food van pool side that has 2 lovely staff members that always have a smile. Dinner was OK. Again I managed to eat but nothing really wowed me. Chinese night was probably the best one. We only had dinner 3 times within the hotel. Entertainment was lacking compared To what is on offer everywhere else but was OK if you wanted to make the most of your inclusive drinks. The pool was Cold but there plenty of sunbeds and yes the tiles are loose but not so much it's dangerous. It helps with drainage and the floor always felt clean beneath my feet. But we did have a night that ruined this hotel for me. We won a quiz for the second day in a row and although said in banter we were called cheaters then told we couldn't play bingo. We laughed until we really were not given a ticket. After asking. After we were told it was an accident and given a prize. We didn't even want the prize it was more frustrating sat for 20 minutes while everyone else played bingo. Also that evening a young lad ran into the automatic glass doors, hurting his head and cracking the glass. The young lad was crying, injured and scared and the staff just put their heads down and carried on as if they hadn't seen anything.
